Penance can be used to either heal or damage depending on who is targetted. Discipline: Use Shadow Word: Pain and Smite to deal damage to targets. You can swap between specializations by opening up the Specialization & Talents tab (or pressing N to open it quickly), choosing the specialization you like, and clicking the Activate button. Although all three Priest specializations can be leveled with, we do not recommend going Holy unless you want to level only through healing dungeons.Īt level 10 you will select a specialization. When you reach level 10 you get to pick a specialization, Discipline, Holy or Shadow. Holy can be considered easier to play with than Discipline, though, so it is not a terrible choice if you plan on leveling only through dungeons.īefore level 10 you are just a Priest with a smattering of Priest abilities. Although Holy Priests can deal decent damage with Smite and Holy Fire, Discipline fills the same niche while giving you more damage in the long run. The final specialization that Priests have, Holy, is not recommended for leveling. This also opens up dungeon leveling with quick healing specialization queues! It does not do as much damage as a Shadow Priest, but with spells like Penance, Shadow Word: Pain and Smite, you are able to level without too much issue. Shadow is the only DPS specialization a Priest has, so it automatically becomes the best option for leveling.ĭiscipline can be a good leveling spec, as you are able to weave damage and healing spells and do significant damage on your own while keeping yourself healthy. Devouring Plague returns as a short duration, strong DOT that costs Insanity to use.įor a total beginner to the class, although each specialization has strengths and weaknesses, we recommend Shadow as the best Priest leveling spec. You can increase its duration by picking up the level 50 talent Hungering Void. Void Eruption is now a 1.5 minute cooldown and lasts for 15 seconds. Shadow Priests have received a slight rework that will be active in the Shadowlands pre-patch:.Experienced Priests will notice some talents have been reworked or rearranged, and may require re-acquiring some talents.Until they are allowed to choose a spec at level 10, their abilities are drawn from the general Priest abilities available to all specializations. New Priests will not begin in a default spec (Shadow). These are abilities that are now shared by all Priests, regardless of what specialization they are in. There is a new tab on your spellbook between General and your talent specialization, simply titled "Priest".Players will not have the opportunity to choose a Covenant until their first character reaches level 60 in Shadowlands. The Shadowlands Covenant system is not being released in pre-patch, so will not be covered here.
